IT Industries in Kerala :Seminar

Cochin university of science and technology on 19th and 20th December2006 witnessed a hot discussion on the future of IT in kerala.

This was on a two day seminar conducted in connection with the keralappiravi celebrations of the university the first topic was on it infrastructure in Kerala Mr. Sasikumar from CDAC explained how Kerala is blessed with a powerful IT infrastructure also the Akshaya project giving IT facilities in Malappuram was discussed .

The networking infrastructure of Kerala is superb and we have many techno parks .But some of them in Malabar are scarcely occupied. The only thing we lack is marketing of our it infrastructure, it was mentioned. E-governance in Kerala is still in its infancy said Prof .Sasidharan, director information systems finance department Kerala of the Kerala government .In another panel discussion ,he emphasized the need for a centralized framework for e-governance Mr. S.R Nair ,director team frontlines in another session explained how Kerala had fallen from the top in hardware manufacture. He strongly pointed out the need for a whole change of attitude from the Malayali community. Also there should be a change in the governmental and burocratic attitudes, he explained Mr.N.R Panicker, MD, Accel Frontline Ltd. Elaborated on the new opportunities in KPO( Knowledge Process Outsourcing). With a little training in soft skills our youth will get much more placement .Also we need a change in attitude Sri.P Vinod Bhatathirippad emphasizes the need for handling large scale software piracy.The need for training all involved in technology and cyber forensics. Mr. Balkarishnan of Geojith Securities discussed the sea change that has taken in the trading scenario. He emphasized the need for security and user awareness in this area. Mr. G. Viswanathan, formerly president of the CSI chaired some of the sessions .Prof. Sargadharan of the Kerala university chaired some sessions.
