Aadum Koothu-T V Chandran delves into a new area

Films do much more than entertain. Some of us expect a message, some others want to be able to identify with the characters and yet others want it to take us into a journey of life as it is lived on different planes.

Aadum Koothu is in Tamil by Chandran who has given Malayalam Cinema some exquisite pieces like 'Susannah', Dany' 'Padam Onnu Oru Vilapam'& 'Kathavaseshan'.

What makes the film different from the Chandran films is the theme he has chosen. In the films mentioned earlier he has handled the psyche of the'woman', her understanding of the 'man' and maybe in the reverse in'Dany'. Am often left wondering whether he is a 'womanist' filmmaker-please note, not a 'feminist' filmmaker.

In Aadum Koothu, Navya Nair's moving back and forth as many women (a fantasy-reality combination) has been handled with a tautness that can only be achieved by a filmmaker with a clarity of purpose and a control of the medium.

The dilemma of any filmmaker is woven into the film quite well, as is the role perception of each person associated with the creative process of a film. The locations are not commonplace and therefore refreshing. It wouldn't be out of place to mention the BG music here- the feel was there.

Getting under the skin of the character, is no easy task is what he has shown us thru a phase of Navya Nair's role and of course the expectation or perception of each person vis-a-vis others involved with the making of the film.

Don't know whether it had to do with the quality of Sound in the theatre but I found the decibels too high.

Yet, at the end of it, the 'Total Effect'was good.
