Will smart city be a reality in god’ s own country? Smart city is a proposed foreign investment it setup in Kakkanad ,Kochi by the Dubai internet city group. Most of the southern states of India were after the Dubai internet group to bag the project before it finally landed in Kerala ‘s lap. Smart city is a planned technology park it would provide critical infrastructure for IT and IT enabled services.
A brief peek through into the developments since the project was initiated in 2003:
2003:
Smart city project was initiated by the A.K Anthony led congress govt.
Nov 2004:
Dubai based group visited india to inspect the proposed land and other infrastructures promised by the Govt . Kerala bagged the offer
Jan- Feb 2005
The communist party plans to review the agreement Bhartiya Janatha Yuvamorcha oppose the project.
Mar 2005
Website is launched to have an online petition to support the project.
Apr 2005
Land acquisition in trouble. Land scam.
Sept 2005
MOU for smart city signed .smart city proposal in court
Apr 2006 judgment reserved signing of agreement deferred till assembly elections are over.
July 2006
go ahead for talks again by V.S.Achuthanandan
Aug 2006
Land acquisition in progress .Rs. 50 core sanctioned for land
Sept 2006
Talks in progress. Govt. decides to go ahead with the project.
May 2007:
Smart city agreement finally signed after lots of discussions.

Smart city is now 4 years of talks and 2 government’s .Will Kochi deliver? Is Kochi the future it capital of India ?
