They train the new intakes for six months to a year before actually getting them to work. Now a pre requisite for any MNC (Multi National Company) is 60% throughout your semester’s minimum. No paper backlogs for most of the companies like Infosys etc. Selection Procedure consists of 3 stages. The first barrier is the Aptitude tests. It is basically testing your logical, verbal and reasoning power. It is a structured systematic way to determine how people perform tasks or react to different situations. It is the first process of filtration. The questions depend on individual companies. Infosys has puzzles. Wipro has some questions on subject knowledge too. IBM, TCS are general aptitude papers. The kind of questions that are asked depends entirely on the company. Next comes GD or Group discussion. It tests for communication skills. The intention of GD is to select the best students who possess the desired skills like knowledge and ability to link facts, how to handle a team/be part of a team, the leadership qualities etc. This may or may not be a filtration process. Mostly it’s not a filtration process but the points here are carried forward to the final stage. And we come to the final stage, Interview. It helps to know the person behind the scores. The interview process evaluates the various aspects such as goals, attitude, motivational levels etc. The interview is basically conducted in 2 stages, the technical and the HR one. The technical is the first one and only those who clear the technical proceed to the final step. The competition is stiffer and the companies don’t compromise on quality as they match with the best remuneration in the industry. You got to do your best there!!!! Tips: GRE/Gate/CAT preparation is the best to clear the aptitude skills. It’s a good practice to solve some papers during vacations starting from the first year. Knowledge never harms one. Improve your communication skills. Inability to express clearly, poor voice, diction and grammar leads to exit. Most of the Keralites have a problem in communication. They just can't express it. Have a brief idea of the company coming in before hand. The question papers of most of the MNC are available online. Have a look at a few papers to know the type of questions. Some of them can be found at freshersworld.com Review your self/resume the prior night, i.e. your objective, goals, strengths, weaknesses, etc. Dress appropriately for the position you are applying for (formals). First impression and appearance are critical for an interview. Dress in good taste. Do greet the interviewer. Most important look interviews in the eyes i.e. do make good contact with your interviewer. Shake hands firmly. Don’t sit until you are offered a chair. Sit still and avoid fidgeting and slouching. Take extra care of your body language as it can give a negative impression without even you realizing it. Don’t be too soft spoken. A forceful voice projects confidence. Don’t try to impress the interviewer. It can be figured out i.e. do have a high confidence and energy level, but don’t be overly aggressive. Don’t act as though you are desperate for the job. Exhibit a positive attitude. Be honest and be yourself. Ask for clarification if you don’t understand a question. This doesn’t mean that you ask clarification for every question. Most important switch off your mobile phones or set them to silent mode i.e. don’t allow your cell phone to ring during the process. Best thing is don’t carry them into the interview room. All the Very BEST!!!
