Thaipooyam celebrated Today

Thaipooyam is celebrated in Kerala. But in is celebrated all over the world too.
Thaipusam Festival is well known in Malaysia and Singapore. In Kerala this is mainly conducted in Muruka temples.In Subrahmanya temples devotees dance with kavadi on their shoulders. This is an important festival in Tamil Nadu too. See a photo by the famous photographer beggs from Malaysia.

This festival celebrated on the full moon in the Tamil month of Thai (Jan/Feb).
many devotees participate in the kaavadi by taking this on their head and piercing their body with small vels,which is the weapon of lord muruga.Also they take many days of vritham before doing so.
